Adult Services - BAT Outreach Service
What we do - Outreach Social Groups - Developing Social Skills - Contact Us
Our Outreach Service is a free support service for young people and adults aged 18 and over with ASD.
What we do
We provide information, guidance and support to adults with ASD and to their parents and carers, on a range of subjects.
These include benefits, accommodation, social activities, training and employment opportunities.
We help identify individual support needs.
We work closely with statutory and voluntary agencies which provide services for young people and adults with ASD. These include Bromley Jobmatch (Mencap), Bromley College, Bromley Sparks, Bromley & Bexley Advocacy, Connexions, and social groups such as Gateway Club and Young Sparks.
We provide signposting to other agencies to meet individual needs.
We have set up a number of social groups for people with ASD and can help individuals to develop social skills.
Outreach Social Groups
The Outreach Service runs regular social groups and activities, offering young people and adults with ASD the opportunity to meet others and enjoy the benefits of social contact. All referrals are handled directly by the Outreach Co-ordinator and eligibility to join the groups is at his/her discretion.
BAT Lunch Club
This is a group for people with ASD of all ages. It meets for lunch every Monday from 12 - 2pm at a pub in Bromley. Some people attend independently and others attend with their support workers or carers.
BAT Youth Club (18-25 year olds)
This is a social club for young people and adults (up to 25) with high functioning autism and Asperger Syndrome.
The Youth Club meets every Wednesday from 7 - 9pm at a local College. We also arrange regular outings and trips.
Application for membership must be made through BAT’s Outreach Co-ordinator.
BAT Social Club (Over 25s)
This is a social club for people aged 25 and over with high functioning autism and Asperger Syndrome.
The club meets fortnightly on Thursdays, from 6.30 - 8pm, at the Jubilee Day Centre, in Blyth Road, Bromley. We arrange outings and trips in addition to the meetings.
Application for membership of the BAT Social Club must be made through our Outreach Co-ordinator.
Developing Social Skills
We can also provide one-to-one support for people with ASD who have specific needs.
For example, we worked with one individual to develop her social awareness, and awareness of danger, so that she could keep herself safe. This included developing her ability to recognise other people’s body language and social cues.
Other people may benefit from developing skills for the workplace - such as interview technique and telephone skills.
