Who are we?
Bromley Autistic Trust came into being in 1981 when a group of parents and interested professionals met together to share concern about the disability of autism and its related needs. Two urgent priorities were identified:-
- To increase public and professional awareness of the special needs of people with autism in Bromley
- To provide local specialist residential provision for adults with autism.
The Trust became a registered charity in 1982 and a Company Limited by Guarantee in 1990. The firm foundations of the Trust have been built by the voluntary efforts of Trustees who were determined to develop the Trust into a professional organisation able to respond flexibly to the needs of people with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder and their families. All Bromley Autistic Trust's services have been established in response to identified needs, and, with partner organisations, services have been developed which address those needs by securing funding.
As a specialist organisation, the Trust has developed a level of expertise and experience in providing services and support to people with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder and their families. The Trust is a partner in autism with the National Autistic Society. Bromley Autistic Trust is the only specialist provider of services to people with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder in Bromley.
